Privacy Policy

How AsalBook, an offline interest ledger, handles your information.

Last updated: 14 October 2026

AsalBook is a record book for people who lend money locally — who was given money, how much interest is due and what came back — published by Tapas Dutta. It is a record-keeping tool only: AsalBook does not lend money and does not offer, arrange or advertise loans. In short: your book is stored on your own device, in an encrypted database, and (only if you choose) backed up to your own Google Drive, encrypted with your PIN. There is no AsalBook server that receives or stores your data.

Who we are

The app is provided by Tapas Dutta (“we”, “us”). For any privacy question or request, contact tapasdutta@outlook.com.

No account, no signup

AsalBook does not require you to create an account. You set a PIN on your phone and start using it; the data you enter stays on your device unless you enable Google Drive backup.

What data the app handles

You enter and store this information locally on your device:

  • People — name, and optionally phone number, area or address, photo and notes.
  • Loans — amount given, interest terms, dates, instalment plans and notes.
  • Payments received — amounts, dates and how they were paid.
  • Items held as security — description, weight, purity and photos you take.
  • Your business name and the app’s settings (interest defaults, reminder message).

All of the above is stored in an encrypted database and photo folder on your device, behind your PIN (and fingerprint, if you turn it on). We do not receive or have access to it.

Google Drive backup (optional)

If you turn on backup, AsalBook copies its database and photos to a private folder in your own Google Drive (the app-specific “appDataFolder”), accessible only to the app on your Google account. The backup is encrypted with your PIN before it leaves the phone, so it cannot be read without it. Google Sign-In is used solely to authorize this backup and to restore it on a new phone. Tapas Dutta does not have access to your Google Drive or its contents. You can remove this data at any time — see the Data Deletion page.

Free trial and subscription

AsalBook is free for the first 45 days, then read-only unless you subscribe. To keep the free trial fair across reinstalls, the date your trial started is saved with Google (Block Store on your Google account, and your Drive app folder if backup is on). Nothing else is stored there. The subscription is sold through Google Play Billing; payment is handled by Google Play and AsalBook does not receive or store your card, UPI or payment details.

App usage statistics and crash reports

To learn which features are used and to fix problems, AsalBook uses two Google services: Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. They receive only anonymous, technical information — never names, phone numbers, amounts, interest rates, notes, items or photos from your book:

  • Usage events — for example that a loan or payment was recorded, a statement was shared or a setting was changed, with general details such as the type of loan (with interest, instalments, without interest) or whether it was shared as an image or PDF. Never what was recorded.
  • Screens opened in the app, and general settings such as the app language, plan status (trial / subscribed), whether backup is on, and rough book size (for example “5–19 people”).
  • Crash reports — device model, Android version, app version and where in the app the error happened.
  • A random app-instance ID created by Firebase (not your name, phone number, email or advertising ID), your approximate region (country / city, worked out from the connection; Google Analytics does not store your IP address) and Google Play purchase events.

AsalBook does not collect the Android advertising ID, has no ads, and turns off ad personalisation in Google Analytics. This information is not linked to your book or used to identify you. It is sent only from the app installed through Google Play — not from test or development copies. Google processes it for us as a service provider under the Firebase privacy terms.

Device permissions

  • Camera & Photos — only to take or attach a photo of a person or an item held, when you choose to.
  • Biometrics — only if you turn on fingerprint unlock; your fingerprint never leaves Android.
  • Internet — only for Google Drive backup / restore, Google Play purchases, anonymous usage statistics and crash reports.

WhatsApp & SMS reminders and receipts

When you send a reminder or share a statement or receipt, AsalBook opens your own WhatsApp, SMS or share app with the message or file ready — you press send. The app does not send messages on your behalf and does not store them on any server.

Sharing & selling

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising. The app contains no ads. Your book leaves your device only when you choose to — for example, when you back up to your own Google Drive, or share a statement or receipt through another app you pick. The anonymous usage statistics and crash reports described above go to Google, which processes them on our behalf.

Security

The database on your phone is encrypted, and the app opens only with your PIN or fingerprint. Backups are encrypted with your PIN. Keep your PIN safe — without it a backup cannot be restored.

Children

AsalBook is a record-keeping tool for adults and is not directed at children.

Retention & deletion

Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You are fully in control — you can erase everything in-app, by uninstalling, or by revoking Drive access. See the Data Deletion page for step-by-step instructions.

Changes to this policy
